SIGNATURE

Oogoya collaborates closely with artists from Shigaraki and nearby regions, each bringing their own ideas, aesthetics, and creativity to their work. Their pieces express unique perspectives rooted in local culture, while we help share these creations with people across Japan and around the world. Together, we hope to build a community that celebrates skill, imagination, and the revitalization of this traditional craft.

Tomohiro Matsumoto

Tomohiro Matsumoto is a Japanese potter working with Shigaraki clay, continuing a family tradition that spans over 150 years. As a fifth-generation potter, he is known for his bold approach to glaze and color. He introduces vivid red tones that contrast with Shigaraki’s traditional hi-iro (緋色) glaze. Today, his work explores a wider range of glazes and firing methods, using materials such as wood ash to create durable, expressive surfaces shaped by fire.
